Expect the Unexpected

The Army has its own code of Military discipline and conduct and requires the services of fully qualified solicitors, lawyers, barristers and advocates.

But not from a distance. The specialist service provided by ALS officers has to be delivered not just in military bases in UK and abroad but especially when deployed on operations overseas. Therefore all ALS officers undertake basic military and leadership training and a 3 month attachment with an Infantry unit before commencing their professional career.

As a newly qualified ALS officer, you will be involved in some or all of the following:

  • The Prosecution of Serious Breaches of Military Discipline.

  • Providing Training and Legal Advice to Commanders and on Military and Civil Law.

  • Advising on the legal aspects of military operations in relation to International Law, the Law of Armed Conflict, the Geneva Convention, Status of Forces Agreements etc.

The duties of an Army Legal Officer are varied, challenging and very rewarding. If you are a qualified solicitor, barrister or advocate who has completed your articles or pupilage and would like more information on a career in the Army Legal Services, please contact them direct at the following address:
